Registered Retirement Savings Plan
Registered Retirement Saving Plan (RRSP) refers to a savings plan that is protected by tax. This plan is recognized by the Federal and Provincial tax authorities. Under this plan deposits are tax deductible both in the year of deposit and in the year of receipt
This plan allows the insured to save fast because it can defer taxes on RRSP. The requirement of RRSP is that the holder this plan should be converted into income when the plan holder reaches 69 years of age.
There are countless choices for conversion. The plan holder can choose the method of conversion according to his discretion. He can either simply cash it in a pay full tax in the year of receipt, or convert it into Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF) , or paying tax on the income received every year until the income is exhausted . It can also be converted into annuity for getting guaranteed payments for a specific number of years etc.
